A Rotary day trip to remember at Whipsnade Zoo

A Rotary day trip to remember at Whipsnade Zoo

For lone parents and their children in Northamptonshire, a day out to the zoo was just what was needed. Rotary Nene Valley successfully arranged and funded two trips to Whipsnade Zoo this summer.

Rotary Nene Valley has successfully arranged two days out to Whipsnade Zoo for children and parents as part of its Lone Parent initiative.

The Northampton-based club took 25 excited children, with 19 parents and three carers from Blackthorn Nursery in the town on a sponsored day trip to the zoo and safari park in Bedfordshire.

With the help of three local members, transport, entrance and lunch was all provided for the day.

A second trip was advertised through a number of local charitable agencies who have community contacts with lone parents, and this time 32 children with 16 parents enjoyed the wonders and delights of Whipsnade Zoo.

The Lone Parent initiative is part of Rotary Nene Valley’s programme to reach out and support those vulnerable in the local community who would benefit from an educational and fun day out.

Both excursions were supported by a grant from Rotary’s own charity, The Rotary Foundation.
