Down in Somerset, the Rotary Club of Bath showed their gratitude to the region’s former soldiers with a £10,000 donation to SSAFA, an Armed Forces charity that provides support all over the UK as well as overseas.
The donation was funded by Bath Rotary’s successful community firework display in November 2023, attended by 6,500 people and watched by thousands more across the city of Bath.
SSAFA has been supporting serving personnel of the Armed Forces, veterans, and their families for more than 130 years, providing direct support to individuals in need of physical or emotional care.
At a recent presentation held by Bath Rotary, the £10,000 donation was presented to SSAFA South West regional chair, Tony Singer, by Allan Gait, Chair of Bath Rotary Club.
Tony said: “This tremendously generous donation will mean we can expand and reinforce our activities across BANES, supporting active and former service people and their families with specialised help.”
Held in early November every year, the Bath Rotary firework display is supported behind the scenes by Bath Rugby, with further help provided voluntarily by local events equipment company Powerline and road specialists Volker Highways.
Rotary President, Allan Gait, said: “It is thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and supporters, and of course the good people and students of Bath who buy tickets, that we are able to make these significant donations.
“We can only hold the event with support from the many volunteers who help us set things up on the day and steward the event itself, and thanks must go to them too.”
