AT this time of the year, prize-winning gardener Allan Evans, a horticulturalist from Llandudno Junction, would normally be staking his claim to gold and silver prizes at the Royal Welsh Show for his speciality – sweet peas
COVID-19 put paid to all that for 2020, but a chance conversation with Mike Perry of Llandudno Rotary led to creating awards of quite a different kind
Over the last few weeks, there have been approximately 50 surprised recipients of these prize blooms.
Bunches of sweet peas have been delivered by Rotary, including some for Llandudno Community Hospital and St. David’s Hospice in Llandudno.
Brenda Fogg of Hope Restored Llandudno also found herself and her charity colleagues the recipients of Allan’s colourful blooms, along with several people known to be living on their own
Chris Drew from Llandudno Rotary said: “Rotary wishes to thank Allan for his beautiful gesture – we wish him every success at the 2021 Welsh Show. Rotary’s thanks are also due to our very own Mike Perry for creating and seeing through this partnership.”
