In some places, a month’s worth of rainfall hit in just 48 hours, combined with strong winds, causing major damage and travel disruption.
Flooding can have a devastating impact on communities, with the work to get livelihoods back on their feet often taking a significant amount of time after the waters have subsided.

About the Disaster Recovery Trust
The Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland Disaster Recovery Trust (formerly known as the Donations Trust) is a registered charity (#1119688), established in 2007, which collates donations and makes grants to Rotary projects working to rebuild communities in the medium to long-term, following natural disasters.
Since then the charity has continued its work with the purpose of responding to major disasters at home and abroad in the reconstruction phase following a disaster.
Typical projects include constructing and equipping school and community centres, rebuilding infrastructure and providing rescue vehicles. The Trust is not a first or emergency responder.
In 2014, the Trust’s UK and Ireland Flood Appeal raised over £100,000, with almost £10,000 being raised since it was re-opened in November 2019.
