This week is Rotary Good News Week, and we are sharing five fantastic stories from five clubs across Great Britain and Ireland.
In Hitchin there have been bears on the loose after the Rotary Club of Hitchin Tilehouse set up a Teddy Trail in the town, all to raise awareness for the End Polio Now campaign.
Inspired by the Rotary Clubs of Guernsey and Ampthill & District, the Teddy Trail has taken place across the town during the Easter holidays. The club has worked in close partnership with the town’s local shops and businesses that have hidden 11 teddy bears among their windows for intrepid explorers to track down one by one.
The club has already had a whole host of residents take part, with the £2 entry fee covering the cost of ten polio vaccinations, which can provide lifelong protection for children at risk of contracting the debilitating disease.
Mike Wells, President of the Rotary Club of Hitchin Tilehouse said, “The Teddy Trail has been a great success. It has been wonderful to see people getting involved right across the town, especially schools, young people and families. We hope the project has been a fun and interactive way for our club to raise awareness of the polio eradication campaign within our community.”
Rotary has been committed to the fight to eradicate polio across the world for over 30 years and clubs across Great Britain and Ireland have donated over £20 million to End Polio Now.
The winners of this year’s Teddy Trail will be named at a family fun day, hosted by the club in the town centre at the end of the month.
