Like many people, the members of Rotary in Market Drayton have found the last two years a challenging time because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, after two years of determination and patience, the Rotary club came to be chartered as part of district 1210 in May this year.
The club is the successor to the former Market Drayton Rotary which disbanded in 2016 and then aimed for a comeback in 2020 which was halted due to the pandemic.
Market Drayton Rotary have established a strong bond with Market Drayton Foodbank, by undertaking regular food collections and deliveries to those in need.”
Due to lockdown the club lacked the minimum number of members to become independent and was run as part of Newport Lite Rotary.
The club’s small but mighty persona has had a significant impact on its local community. The small numbers far from preventing the club from doing what Rotary does best – making connections.
Market Drayton Rotary has established a strong bond with Market Drayton Foodbank, by undertaking regular food collections and deliveries to those in need.
The club has also worked with Shropshire Wildlife Trust in supporting local people living in isolation and much more.
The formal chartering of the new group took place at the Four Alls Inn, Woodseaves in late May, with all the profits from the event going to help alleviate the Ukrainian Refugee crisis.
Later, this year the new club will be providing support to Market Drayton Town Carnival in August and the Ginger and Spice Festival at the end of September before turning its attention to the Festival of Lights and the Tree of Light again in November and December.
