The âExtra Mile Awardsâ are honouring youngsters who have reflected Rotaryâs own âService Above Selfâ ethic and gone that extra mile to improve life for an individual in need, a family or the local community in which they live.
The Shropshire club is now inviting nominations from schools, organisations and individual members of the public in Whitchurch, Malpas, Tilstock, Ash, Prees, Higher and Lower Heath and surrounding areas.
There are two age categories, with separate awards and additional commendations, for youngsters of six to 11 years-old and from 12 to 18.

âWe feel itâs time to rise above the negativity that the Covid pandemic has generated and pay tribute to the young, unsung heroes who have done something positive to reduce the stresses that the lockdowns and restrictions have created,â said Rotary club President, Ian Fawcett.
âWeâre looking for young people, from any area of local life, who have shown they care at a time of so much national and local hardship, social, health and financial pressures.
We feel itâs time to rise above the negativity that the Covid pandemic has generated and pay tribute to the young, unsung heroes who have done something positive to reduce the stresses that the lockdowns and restrictions have created,â
We hope the âExtra Mile Awardsâ will show our appreciation and recognise their achievements in helping to turn our communities into better places to live.â
Nominations close on May 31st and the actions they recognise will have occurred during the 13 months between March 2020 and March 2021. The award presentations will be at Alderford Lake in June.
The âExtra Mile Awardsâ are sponsored by The Grocott Family Charitable Trust and SBC Training Ltd.

Last year, in response to the Covid restrictions, Denby Dale & District Rotary in West Yorkshire came up with a novel way of raising funds after the cancellation of its annual golf day.
Over the years, the golf day has raised thousands of pounds for the Forget Me Not Childrenâs Hospice in Huddersfield.
The Charity Golf Challenge event, which allowed teams to play on any course at a time of their choice proved very popular with around 50 teams taking part from all over the UK, in Europe and even in Australia.
It resulted in significant donations to both the childrenâs hospice and also Carers UK.
Denby Dale & District Rotary President Gil Davies said that the response to the first event was very positive.
He said: âTo be honest, we didnât know whether the event would work with all the Covid restrictions in place but the response was excellent and a number of people told us that they enjoyed the format and have encouraged us to run it again this year.â
Teams of four can play anywhere they like and at any time from May 1st until September 30th.
We didnât know whether the event would work with all the Covid restrictions in place but the response was excellent and a number of people told us that they enjoyed the format and have encouraged us to run it again this year.â
The entry cost is just ÂŁ10 per person and after completing their round, teams simply email their scorecard. The winners will receive 10% of all entry fees collected with prizes for the top four teams.
The Stableford competition is open to any combination of men and ladies. The only restriction is that golfers must be a member of a golf club and have a current Handicap Index.
