Washington Rotary were involved in two major sporting events which have raised thousands of pounds for charities in the north-east.

It has been a sporty few weeks for Rotarians from Washington Rotary on Tyne & Wear.

Dozens of riders took to the streets of Sunderland for a popular sporting fundraiser.

Fifty cyclists took part in the annual fun family bike ride, which took participants of a 17-mile route from the Washington Arms to the Stadium of Light and back.

The event was organised by Washington Rotary, with proceeds going to the 4th Washington Scout Group.

Cyclists were sent on their way by Sunderland Mayor, Cllr David Snowdon, and the Mayoress, Cllr Dianne Snowdon, and featured a five-year-old girl in a buggy towed by her dad, to cyclists in their eighties.

In a separate fundraiser, thousands of pounds were raised for the Rotary club’s special causes fund with a golf tournament staged at Boldon Golf Club.

The event featured 26 teams of four and was supported by summery weather.
